group homes for domestic violence survivors and their children

There is a significant gap in the amount of shelters. The demand does not meet the supply. Due to this, many women and children in seek of a safe place to sleep end up being turned away from shelters due to lack of capacity. This results in homelessness or the person returning to the abuser.

There are 2-fold aspects to the Luminary Group LLC. Providing shelter for the homeless and shelter for DV survivors.

A new beginning

We creat a safe, supportive environment, of transitional housing.  Where women can rebuild their lives, rest and heal, develop financial literacy and independence, and find their own stable long term housing.

Our mission

Reducing number of homicides due to DV. Our current focus over the next 5 years is on Alabama as 20% of homicides each year is from DV. We would like to see that number get as low as possible, and will be aiding that by fillingin in the gap of available DV group homes so that no woman in Alabama is turned away from a shelter again. We will also be campaigning to spread awareness via our social media pages and speaking with the governor about how to enact change. One aspect is advocating for enlarging the police force as the police do not have the capacity to go out and answer as many DV calls as there are. Once we have filled in the gap in Alabama, we would like to keep moving to other areas throughout the southern United States to solve this problem.

A safe space to heal

A welcoming compassionate environment, with a garden for women to participate with if they like. There are plenty of games for the children and bunkbeds for them as well.

Community

Independence

Building a life of independence where you can feel safe and secure again. Learning financial literacy skills will help cultivate long term stability. Additionally finding a job and long term housing. All of these things help restore self worth and confidence in one's own capability. It also lessens the chance of a woman going back to her abuser due to financial dependence.
